I just got back from a week long trip to Key West, FL. I missed out on the cold and got to enjoy some great weather at the southern most point in the U.S.A. in January. Being from the Northeast this was pretty awesome. Here are some observations from that trip.
- Key West is not a place for kids, not really sure why you would want to bring them there on vacation
- There are a ton of bars. We hit what I would say is a lot, but we only scratched the surface.
- During this trip, I did all the touristy crap I could. Tours, museums, para-sailing, snorkeling (kind of) and other various other things
- Pelicans are funny and awesome.
- As with the bars, there are a ton of places to eat. I'll recap that in a different blog.
- From doing various tours I learned some of the history of Key West, it is extremely interesting how they city has changed from various industries over the years
- The best days are when zero cruise ships are docked. I'm sure all the businesses will disagree with me, but the sidewalks were empty for me to walk.
- I walked a lot, probably an average of 4-6 miles a day. There is a ton to do in such a short distance.
- I really don't like being told to tip, do a good job and you'll get a tip.
- This isn't really a Key West thing it applies everywhere, when walking side by side with someone, and another person is coming on the sidewalk. It's just common courtesy to go single file. You're just a jerk by not doing that.
- I did not go there for the beach, and that's a ,good thing since the beaches they have kind of suck.
- We stayed at a bed and breakfast, the Coco Plum Inn. The breakfast each morning was excellent
- Was not really the best trip to break in new flip flops, they hurt my feet. Bonus, I was in flip flops in January
- Save your money, you're going to spend it.
Overall, it was a good trip, was really great to be in warm weather in January. Would I go back, probably, but I won't be beating down the Key West door anytime in the near future.
